Sparkpass uses Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) - an open protocol that connects to your wallet without sharing keys. We only request invoice permissions:

make_invoice- generate payment requests
lookup_invoice- check payment status

We never ask for pay_invoice or spending permissions.

In fact, we actively reject wallets that grant us spending rights. We don't want your send button. The Bitcoin ecosystem has enough wallets - we're not building another one.

We believe event organizers shouldn't have to trust any platform with their revenue — including us. The traditional ticketing model - where platforms collect all payments and dole them out weeks later - is broken.

Bitcoin and the Lightning Network make something better possible: instant, final settlement directly to wallets you control. Sparkpass is the infrastructure that connects attendees to organizers with minimal intermediation.

We take a small fee for operating the platform, but we never touch your ticket revenue. It's a cleaner model that aligns our incentives: we do well when you have successful events, not by holding your money hostage.

Common Questions

What wallet do I need?

Any wallet that supports Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC). Popular options include Alby Hub, Alby Go, Primal, and Coinos. For attendees, any Lightning wallet works to pay invoices.

Why two invoices instead of one?

Lightning invoices can only have one recipient - there's no way to split a single payment between multiple wallets. So to stay truly non-custodial, we use two invoices: the platform fee goes to Sparkpass, and the ticket payment goes directly to your wallet. We never touch your revenue because it never passes through us in the first place.

What happens if payment fails mid-checkout?

If an attendee pays the platform fee but the ticket payment fails or times out, the platform fee is automatically refunded. We have a 21-minute checkout window, and our system handles edge cases gracefully.

Do I need to run my own Lightning node?

No, but you need a wallet with NWC support. Solutions like Alby Hub can run in the cloud, and wallets like Phoenix handle channel management automatically. You just need a wallet that can receive Lightning payments.

What about fiat pricing?

Set a USD price for attendee clarity; settlement is always in sats to your wallet. At checkout, we convert to sats using real-time exchange rates and lock that rate for the session. You receive sats - Bitcoin is the settlement layer, USD is just the display unit.

Is there a free tier?

Yes — free events are completely free to host. No wallet connection needed. Just create, share, and track RSVPs. The 3% fee only applies to paid tickets.
